Riser/Recliner Chair Glossary

Riser Recliners are good in two ways: The rising action helps you sit down and stand up. The reclining action can make you more comfortable, especially if you are sitting down for a lot of the day. This can help with some medical problems.

All riser recliners work on the same basic principle - you press a button on a hand control and the whole chair slowly raises you up so you can stand.

Usually the seat tips forward as well as going up, to help you get out. For some people, who have weak legs or difficulty controlling their legs, this makes things harder, or just a bit scary. Some chairs can be set up to go straight up without tipping

Sitting down goes the other way - you position yourself on the raised seat and press a button and the seat goes down slowly to a sitting position.
By pressing the button further they let you get your feet up and lie back for a rest. You can also get yourself comfortable in different positions for different things (reading, watching TV, etc). They are not designed to be used as a bed if this is required then there are chair bed models available.

The Standard Recliner needs between 18”-24” space behind to Fully Recline. A Wall hugger only requires a 4” space behind to recline as they slide forward as they recline.

Most recliners are operated by either one or two motors, basically the more motors the chair has the more flexible it is.

One-motor chairs lift the leg rest and then recline the back so you can sit with your feet up and your back upright or reclined.

Two-motor chairs are more flexible because you can move the leg rest up and down and the back rest backwards and forwards independently.

Most Riser Recliners power supply uses a standard 13 amp house socket the cable runs to a transformer which converts it to 12volts to the chair they also provide a battery backup as a emergency in case of a power cut please beware this can only get you to a sitting position only as they haven’t the capacity to move the chair to the upright position.

There are many options and extras that can be added to the chairs please find listed below the most common ones and a brief description.

Hazard Sensor System:  Designed to identify objects that may prevent the safe operation of the chair

Heat and Massage Kit:
The Luxury of a massage when seated in your chair which you can control both the heat massage intensity by a hand controller

Casters:  For moving the chair easily if required standard set is made up of four, two with brakes and two without.

Headrest Pillow:  If you need a little more support to make yourself more comfortable.

Legrest: Extension: Offers more support to the back of your heels when the standard footboard is not long enough.
